Staff Spotlight: Head of Client Services

Meet Nick King, Ignite’s Head of Client Services. He leads the Sales and Account Management functions and ensures the team has everything they need to do a brilliant job every day.

What is your job role and what do you do day to day?

The day-to-day is so varied but essentially doing what we can as a team to ensure our clients are happy with the services being provided. I also build out propositions for new clients and look to win new business through various routes to market.

Tell us the best part about your job

Seeing individuals in the team develop and progress in their jobs is definitely what I enjoy the most from the role. The most rewarding part of my job is working with each of team members and winning new customers.

What have been the most challenging projects within your job role?

We don’t always get it right, so being able to react to issues and client challenges can be quite complex.  Our retention rate is 96% currently, and as a business we have to be agile to deal with this landscape.

How did you get started in the energy industry?

By accident! A friend of mine worked in sales at a company called Enron.  They thought it would be a good job for me….and they were right!

How do you see the future of energy evolving over the next 5-10 years?

I certainly see a greater role for data and more creative ways to harness this and interpret it.  Tech and AI will continue to evolve and become more prominent as net-zero timelines come to life and decarbonisation gathers momentum.  Ignite are in a unique position to support organisations as legislation and policy becomes more complex, and the demand for support from a trusted and credible partner increases.  It’s such an exciting time for the Group, and the growth potential is vast for our model!

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be patient, and focus on where you want to get to, not what is in the way of you getting there.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Play a lot of padel and tennis, love the outdoors and living in the Oxfordshire countryside there are some great routes to walk and run. I’m also a ‘retired’ drummer!
